Course notes (these will be updated with any changes):
- Part 1 concerns Particle physics.
- Part 2 treats Effective Field Theories.
- Part 3 is about cracks in the Standard Model and physics beyond it.
This year the planning of the course is a bit complicated, see the timetable.
- Thursday 15th January: room 56-66 201. slides for the first lecture.
- Thursday 22nd January: room 56-66 201. slides for the first half of the lecture. Remainder from the Particles notes up to the end of section 2.1; exercises on the slides. Solutions to problems.
- Wednesday 28th January: room 24-34 110. Breit-Wigner from QFT. exercises on diagrams with solutions to the first problem. Unitarity up to section 3.1 in the notes.
- Thursday 5th February: room 56-66 201. Solutions to exercises on diagrams, unitarity as a probe of non-renormalisability, exercises on unitarity. IR divergences.
- Wednesday 18th February (no course the 11th or 12th): room 14-15 103. QCD (end of particles notes). Solutions to remaining diagram exercises.
- Thursday 19th February: room 56-66 201. EFTs part 1.
- Thursday 5th March: 14-24 205.
- Thursday 12th March: 24-25 104. EFTs part 2, EFT exercises and solutions. BSM part 1.
- Thursday 19th March: 24-25 104. BSM part 2.
- Thursday 2nd April: 24-34 204. Exam.

The format for the exam is
- Part A involves a choice of 3 questions from 5 or 6 provided on different topics. Each question is worth 25 percent of the total mark
- Part B, worth 25 percent, is a short essay on any topic on the course you found interesting. It should be of order one page of A4, handwritten, and you may prepare it in advance and bring it with you, handing it in with your exam.
- You may bring your notes with you, and something for doing arithmetic calculations for numerical solutions. But be reasonable: no communication with outside, ChatGPT during the exam, etc.
